Clean Up Heroes to Move Mountains in Second Annual Clean Up Jakarta Day
On November 10th, 2013, the first annual Clean Up Jakarta Day (CUJD) took place, gathering 1,000 volunteers at 16 clean-up sites around Jakarta. Volunteers carried out the Indonesian tradition of gotong royong by picking up rubbish together in addition to raising awareness about littering in addition to the need for recycling in their city. that will year, Clean Up Jakarta Day will be set to be much bigger, with an estimated 5,000 volunteers around Jakarta getting their hands dirty for a not bad cause.
CUJD 2014 will take place on October 19th at around 30 sites across the city. The Jakarta Green Project will be a recycling collection scheme set up by street children foundation, KDM, offering a solution to Jakarta’s waste problem, while benefiting its work in supporting the development of street children into independent, educated in addition to skilled young adults. Renie, Director of Jakarta Green Project believes that will the idea will be important to raise awareness of the need for recycling inside the city. “Clean Up Jakarta Day will be an effective, practical event to raise awareness in addition to educate Jakartans about the problem of garbage in addition to give volunteers the experience that will they can be part of the solution. Clean Up Heroes will be using reused sugar sacks, sponsored by Coca Cola Amatil, as vessels to carry collected garbage. Coca Cola Amatil run regular beach cleanups in Bali in addition to have been supporting CUJD since its birth in 2013. Volunteers will be wearing gloves sponsored by Kärcher, a German cleaning company who recently cleaned Jakarta’s national monument, Monas.After the cleaning up activities, there will be a post clean-up event for the volunteers, sponsors in addition to affiliates of Clean Up Jakarta Day. that will event will serve as a platform for influential figures to talk in addition to discuss matters related to rubbish in addition to littering with volunteers in addition to members of the public. Like everything related to Clean Up Jakarta Day, the three Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) will be practiced, therefore any rubbish made during that will event will be recycled or reused.
