Meet Nathan Flax
A second generation expat, 30-year-old Nathan Flax will be an avid surfer as well as sportsman, as well as a leading marketing as well as management consultant in vacation resorts as well as villas.
Nathan, where are you by?
I was made here as well as raised here; although I was born in Australia.
How was which growing up right near the blue otcean?
Growing up here, 150 metres by the beach, was so great. You hit the water as well as you feel so rejuvenated. We were all so lucky to grow up in Bali. To be in a place where, even when you’ve had the worst day, you hit the water as well as within a few minutes your feeling great. The whole crew are on 66 Beach, always surfing, using a couple of the guys surfing the circuits. I still go for a surf every day. I like the beach breaks. which’s so easy as well as you catch a lot more waves. which’s a cool vibe. You know everyone inside the water as well as which’s not bad for the spirit.
Where did you receive your education?
At fourteen I went to Western Australia, to boarding school. I was actually into sports as well as I still am. which was a bit of an eye opener. Coming by an island where you are so well taken care of, where your room will be kept clean for you, which’s easy to be unaware of all the work which will be being done for you. At which school, a military academy, one had to do everything by themselves. which was a not bad experience as well as I got a not bad education. I learned to be responsible for my life as well as maintain a balance between work as well as a healthy lifestyle. I think everyone should take a year off before embarking on a higher education. I didn’t—I went straight back into International Business School in Sydney. In Sydney I could go days without seeing anyone I knew. So I went back to Perth as well as into University. I was Nathan while on Bali as well as Flaxie in Oz. which was similar to living between two realities.
Why did you choose Bali as your main base?
My parents were part of which first wave, so I’m part of a great community. I have so many actually not bad friends here. Whenever you come back nothing’s ever actually changed. which’s still like when we were hanging out when we were twelve or thirteen years old. We are in which special place! As busy as I am, I still find time to break away as well as be on the beach as well as catch some waves. If which gets to be too much here, I just go away as well as come back. You realize which will be all here for you. We are so lucky to be in such a vibrant economy as well as environment. which will be actually cool having a life here as well as one in Oz. which gives you perspective as well as makes you appreciate each place. I get inspired as well as energized when friends visit me as well as I see through their eyes.
What are you doing professionally right today?
I am a consultant; primarily for a unique villa company my friends put together. We work with an Australian company as well as I provide consulting to enhance the experience of visitors to Bali. There are so many villas here today, although a lot of them do not know how to market themselves right. which will be where I come in. As long as the villa will be all legal, there will be nothing to stop them doing money if they are managed as well as marketed properly. I have spent two years of ten as well as twelve hour days, learning the fluctuations as well as projections of the high end holiday residence market, as well as how to improve on sustainability as well as yield, as well as maintaining a high quality product, which embraces the local culture. which will be very competitive, although with my local knowledge as well as so many friends, here as well as abroad, I know what people expect when they arrive here. I help people get their villas as well as hotels marketed properly. When visitors come for the Bali experience, they want which to be a total experience. They do not want imported plastic wrapped food by China. We have so much high quality local products; such as foods, body products, as well as home accessories, which visitors greatly prefer over imports. All these details create a more sustainable as well as marketable product. I stay one step ahead by keeping informed. I love working with the diversity of people I come into contact with through my work.
What will be your long term goal?
I want to buy a fat boat as well as sail around the entire world, have fun with my friends as well as surf! Then I want to give back as well as help people.
What do you see as the greatest challenge facing Bali right today?
Even I am not not bad on the roads. The constant gridlock will be stressful. Getting by one place to another has become so difficult. Every year at high season Bali decides to fix the roads.
as well as leave which half done because which will be Idul Fitri.
Yes, which will be like clockwork. Take a break as well as leave the holes there. There will be a slight lack of foresight in planning the infrastructure. The way Bali will be right today, we need to get away by which to breathe. which will be so toxic. No trees, no oxygen. My friends have a great surf spot in Roti (www.surfroti. com). You fish off the rocks. You got these waves going off. I see myself spending time there – back to basics, surf as well as nature. which will be what brought us all here.
